Resist the Madness!
LETS
face it, American culture is in crisis. Since the 1980's Culture
Wars, we've witnessed the consolidation of political, media and economic
power into the hands of people who clearly don't have our best
interests in mind. From corporate co-opting of our queer-eyes to
conservative politicians ignorant and dangerous high-jinks we are
getting culturally, politically and economically screwed.
IT
appears we are subjects in a vast experiment in social control and
induced amnesia. They feed us prescription drugs, VCR's, DVD's, MP3's,
information superhighways, cellphone 'freedom' and computer generated
action crap, anything to pacify and help us forget the sense of optimism
and potential for change unleashed in the western countries in 1968, and
in the east in 1989. And it's working all too well.
THE
underground culture must resist with the tried and true tactics of
community activism, cultural fertility and outspoken action. We must
revel in our intelligence, be belligerent with our opinions and act
aggressively towards bourgeois propriety. Let's not forget -- every time
we speak out, every time we create work, we are creating a crack in the
dogmatically dull foundation of the stupid status quo.
MIX17
promises to be a cruising ground for radical opinion, sexy
performance and plain old brilliant experimental film and video. So come
on over to the Anthology and check out a panel discussion, attend our
screenings and party with the best and brightest of the downtown New
York scene, and always remember - Resistance is Fertile!
