In
the 1980s, Mexican filmmaker Ricardo Nicolayevsky lived and worked
in New York City. During that time he filmed intimate portraits
of his friends, lovers and acquaintances with a Super-8 camera.
Nearly 20 years later these mesmerizing films will receive their
first public screenings in New York. Carefully restored and digitized
by the maker himself, these films are celluloid time capsules to
our recent - but altogether distant - past. Featuring images of
video virtuosa, Ximena Cuevas and the incomparable Michael Musto.
“The most important things for me when making a film: when shooting,
keep painting close to heart; do poetry on film; give the soundtrack
the power of portraying; play, improvise, leave the doors and windows
open.” - Ricardo Nicolayevsky
